In the early days, the compass was the primary navigation instrument. Then with the remote reading compass and the radio navigation, the instrument was known as HSI or horizontal situation indicator.
With introduction of glass cockpit, more information can be included. The weather radar display was removed and the information is included in the EHSI or more commonly known as ND or Navigation Display (Nav Display).
As it is electronics, the management and orientation of the data is easier. The display can be shown as a 360 degrees compass card (rose) or in part. These are the types of display.
